The IF (Invisible Friend) Project is devoted to exploring the wild and wonderful ways children relate to the “see-through” world around them. Our team has interviewed children in 5 countries: US, Kenya, Nepal, Malawi, and in the Dominican Republic.
In addition to interviewing children and parents about imaginary companions, we have asked them about other invisible beings, from angels and gods to ancestors, spirits, fairies, and even Santa Claus, depending on the culture.
Many children have drawn pictures of their IFs, and we share them with you on the Drawings page.
The About the Project page has a great video clip from one of our interviews. And the first article from the research, “See-through Knowing,” is available from the free, online journal Journal of Childhood and Religion.
Eventually, we hope to provide many more links, research results, and more. Enjoy.
